All four defendants were interviewed by officers from the Fairbanks Police Department in the hours following John Hartman's fatal beating. The following official transcripts of those interviews, which helped convict the four men, contain graphic language and descriptions. Readers should also be aware that some of the "facts" the police cite are not true.That is standard practice in such interviews.

George Frese Interview

Conducted during the course of three taped sessions that begin at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, continue at the old Fairbanks Police Station and conclude during Frese’s ride home (he was accompanied by detectives).

Readers may want to look for the words "I want to go home" (page 22) to find an issue that became the focus of a legal battle. Everything after that statement was deemed inadmissible in court.
