Protest took root on College Hill
- Written by Fernanda Chamorro and Laura Schlutt
Flash needed
When a couple of student activists, Ethan Alan, Forest Dranseen and Christopher Goodwin, took inspiration this fall from the Occupy Wall Street movement gaining momentum attention acrosss the Lower 48, their concerns centered on the high cost of tuition, gas, and fuel.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks students never thought that the movement would take on global significance. And, of course, they never would have guessed that November would take a plunge into record low temperatures, dropping into the forty below zero range, suggesting a need for tents at the protest park downtown.
